Audience Feedback

A Song About A Girl: Reaction

This is the audience reaction I recorded, so we could get an intimate piece of feedback from the public who would view our music video. Costumes, mise-en scene and lighting were mentioned as well as location and editing techniques, which is important for us as music video directors as these are all things that would appeal successfully to audiences.

Outtakes

Bloopers & Outtakes of our Music Video

Here are the bloopers and outtakes for our music video. I personally think that it was important for us to record our mistakes in order to show our progress and how much we have improved in the outtakes, rough draft and final cut of the video.

Constructing The Advert

Constructing The Advert

Here are some screenshots that display the evidence of our process when creating the digipak. Michal constructed the advert whilst myself and Josh guided him and gave him tips on what to do. We decided as a group that we wanted it to look similar to the single (digipak) that we had just created, so we gave it a similar background and the same font, so it fitted in with the same original house style. We also added in a picture of Sam's face and moulded it into the background to make it look even more comical and eye-catching.

Constructing the Digipak

Constructing The Digipak

Here are some screenshots of our process of creating the Digipak for our music video. The album art is colourful and fun, much like the music video and the general sound of the song so personally I think it goes well with the theme of what we were trying to bring across; a stereotypical and comedic pop-punk song with a hilarious music video to come with it. I feel that because by listening to the single you aren't watching the music video, it was important to create something that would appeal to audiences (eye catching and luminous colours) if it was sold in a CD shop such as HMV, etc.

Music Video Rough Cut

Music Video: Rough Cut

We have completed the rough draft for our music video. By completing the first cut, we as a group can evaluate how we will be able to improve when creating our final cut. For example we'll be able to use fact-paced editing to the beat now, and also explore more of Premiere Pro's editing features.

Editing The Music Video 2

Editing The Music Video 2

Here we have collected further evidence of our editing for the music video. Now we had filmed everything, we had the opportunity to play around with the tools on Premiere Pro and experiment with how they worked, in order to be a bit more unique with our editing. In this screenshot you can see that we took 4 extreme close-up clips of 4 people and added them into one frame so that the screen was split into 4. This was an interesting way of showing our newly founded skills in editing.

Editing The Music Video

Editing The Music Video

Here is a screenshot of our beginning process of editing the music video. We started off by taking the first parts of our footage and adding them into the video column in Premiere Pro whilst having the audio for the song alongside it. We only used basic editing skills at this point because we could make it better later on, once we collected all the footage.

Third Day Of Filming

Third Day Of Filming

Today we filmed some more footage for our music video. As a group, myself and Michal gathered together a few people who were willing to be in the video and travelled to Southbank in Central London; there we were able to get some footage from all different locations and Sam took up the opportunity to dress like a girl in a public place. We managed to get a lot done in regards to the narrative of our video as we had enough people to turn our video into a story, even if it is a story that people aren't supposed to take seriously. In the future, we are planning to go to various other locations in order to film, and will work on different costumes - on this day we changed the costumes so that they were different from the way they were before, however, they still worked well because of the genre of music we have chosen.

Second Day Of Filming

Second Day Of Filming

Today we went out and filmed some more footage for our music video. We went to the same place we went to last time because we had not filmed enough footage, and plus we did not have the actors that we had today. Sam, who used to be in our group last year, returned in the flesh today but not as a man; rather as a woman. We used the blonde wigs we had purchased previously for him to wear in the video, and I did his make up. He wore a black dress and some sandals along with a necklace. Despite this being different from what Michal was wearing (Green Day t-shirt to stay within the pop punk stereotype we're aiming for, red flannel shirt and a beanie hat), it went well because we were trying to make Sam look as silly and as amusing as possible, but still focusing on the mise-en scene also. Today we grasped the concept of a narrative to have; we gathered together a few ideas  and created a basic love story between Michal and Sam that we can expand on later. We also had Charlie in the video playing his bass guitar. We made sure that he dressed similarly to Michal, and his hair style was usefully appropriate too. Later on we'll get more guitar shots and come up with more ideas to add into our narrative.

First Day Of Filming

First Day Of Filming
Today was our first day of filming. We decided to start filming more simply with the close ups of Michal and then a few clips of him lip syncing the lyrics to A Song About A Girl. We had his costume ready previously, so we made sure he looked appropriate for the shots today by dressing him to fit the genre of music we had chosen in order to endure the mise en scene.
The next time we film we will be using other costumes we created for other characters and then film a few band scenes. We'll also work on other locations we can use for this video.
